Twin Row Dryland Corn Production....

Here is the idea:

Can we up the population on dryland corn through twin row planting and increase yields?

Thanks to a progressive producer, Dad and I got to plant three hybrids at 16,000 and 26,000 populations on dryland.  The twin row itself was on 8 inch centers every 30 inches to allow us to harvest with the typical 30 inch corn head.  We put in P0231HR, P0902XR, and 33B54.  B54 is our old workhorse, just an all-around excellent number.  P0231 is a new 102 day that is showing some very and I mean very impressive drought tolerance.  P0902 is a 109 day that is looking to have good flex, drought tolerance and very impressive pH tolerance.  We planted P0902 and P0231 at 16,000 and 26,000.  The big difference early was that where the hybrids were staggered evenly, producing a perfect triangle, the plants were a leaf ahead of the unevenly staggered corn. 

Drought tolerance was a must as we have some sand on this field.  The last rain of any significance was on June 6.  It was only a .60 inch rain.  Other than that, we depended on a full profile.

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the Advantage Ag Blog.  I don't really know what we will cover here, but any ideas or suggestions would always be appreciated.  I think we will have to get a yield trial section going, as well as a late season health section on hybrids.  I also want to get started on a weekly or bi-weekly section on a corn plot for the spring of 2011.  It will get placed on dryland and we can do a weekly or bi-weekly plot tour (Definitely not mandatory for growers) that you can come to if you want.  I thought it might be neat to see pictures updated for the growing season and really get an in depth look at our leading products.  Got any ideas, just let me know.
